Australian Carpet Pythons
The Carpet Python has become a treasured pet for may people. The
Carpet Python snake is native to the rain forests of Queensland in
Australia. Adult carpet snakes can reach lengths of 1.5-2M in
captivity. They have a life span between 20 - 30 years.
The Carpet Python is a slender snake that is medium sized. It has a
large head and long neck. It has lips with pits on it. This species of
snake is known for its distinctive and impressive black and yellow
markings. These markings can vary extensively. They can consist of
freckles, stripes, bands, blotches or combinations of those. Colors can
range from a lemon yellow color to a pale yellow, deep gold, or ivory.

A Carpet Python will usually do better in an arboreal cage of a large
size. The lid on the cage must be designed in a way that is secure
because most snakes are very good at escaping. The ideal temperature
during the daytime for a Carpet Python should be between 24-27degC. Temperatures at night should be between 5 - 10 degC cooler.
Light can be provided for the carpet snake with standard fluorescent
bulbs. Heat can be provided for the snake with various methods such as
ceramic emitters, basking bulbs, or thermal panels. It is recommended
that heat rocks are not used because they can cause burning. Also, make
sure you do not put any of the heating elements in a place where the
snake can come into contact with it.
Various substrates such as carpeting or newspaper can be used. If you
want a more natural look and feel, you can use soil or coconut shells.
This will also help maintain the humidity levels better than objects
such as newspapers. Branches should be provided so the snake can climb.
Also, humidity levels should be kept between 60 - 70%. This will help to
promote proper shedding. Carpet snakes will also appreciate objects that
will give them places to hide. |
